Professor Jaeho Han of Korea University Graduate School Department of Brain & Cognitive Engineering has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 IEIE (The Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers) Research Pioneer Award, sponsored by the Haedong Science Foundation. This award recognizes his groundbreaking research contributions to imaging and its applications, which have significantly advanced Korea’s ICT academia and technology.

Professor Han has conducted innovative research in optical signal processing, developing new technologies for effectively processing signals from neural biological tissues in the fields of optical bioimaging and medical image processing. His work has addressed fundamental challenges in traditional imaging processes. These research achievements have been published in several prestigious top-tier international journals, highlighting their excellence.
The novel imaging technologies he developed are expected to have significant applications, such as automating retinal image analysis for the precise and rapid diagnosis of retinal diseases and predicting surgical outcomes in ophthalmology. Additionally, these advancements have made substantial contributions across various interdisciplinary fields, including optical measurement and control systems, bio-signal information processing, and medical artificial intelligence, with a broad impact on commercialization.
The award ceremony was held during the IEIE annual general meeting on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the High1 Grand Hotel Convention Tower.
